Our Vision

Our vision is to use the assets of Tranquille on the Lake’s ecological and agricultural heritage to design and build a beautiful lake shore community that grows much of its own organic food, is competitively priced and has a minimal environmental footprint. We are using the phrase “eco-agro” to frame the two foundational elements of this story.

Ecology (Eco): The 15,000 hectare Lac du Bois Grasslands to the north of Tranquille on the Lake is home to three unique grassland communities (Click here for more information). The 265 hectare Tranquille Ecological Reserve to the west protects selected stands of Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir which provide spring range for mule deer and wintering range for bighorn sheep. The 235 hectare Tranquille Wildlife Management Area to the east is located on the Thompson River and is nourished by the annual rise and fall of the river. Sweeping across the 3 kilometre long southern boundary of Tranquille is a widening of the Thompson River into the 29 kilometre long Kamloops Lake, home to Rainbow Trout, Kamloops Trout, and Dolly Varden fish.

Agriculture (Agro): Tranquille has always been driven by the annual rythms of its agrarian lifestyle. The 121 hectare Tranquille Farm has traditionally provided food for its residents and staff. Rich soils, abundant water, a favourable micro climate, and access to state of the art farm infrastructure, were the foundation behind the historical success of the Tranquille farm. It has been a thriving agricultural oasis surrounded by ecological areas rich in natural flora, fauna, and uniqueness.

Tranquille on the Lake - a sustainable community.
